Why IELTS is important to move to Canada?
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System, and it is a popular English language test that is accepted by most universities and companies across the globe. Last year itself, the test was taken by 3.5 million candidates. IELTS is a required test for non-native speakers of the English language who are looking to move to a predominantly English-speaking country for either education or work.
Canada is slowly emerging as the leading country for education or career growth. IELTS is accepted as a language exam by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) organisation and by over 350 universities and colleges in the country.

Study in Canada
Canada has become very popular among students as it offers high-quality education and studying is affordable in comparison to Australia, the UK, and the USA.
Canadian colleges and universities also offer financial aid to Indian students in the form of bursaries, grants, and scholarships. Approximately, you will require somewhere around 7,000 to 29,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD) as tuition fees per year.
IELTS is an exam which Indian students are required to take as India is a non-native English-speaking country, and the universities need to check the grasp of the language. The exam will also determine how easily the students will settle in the country, and whether they will face any language barriers.
Some of the major universities accepting IELTS are:
University of Toronto
McGill University
British Columbia University
University of Montreal
University of Alberta
University of Ottawa
York University
If you are looking to study in one of Canada’s prestigious universities, then sitting for the IELTS Academic Test is a must.
Work in Canada
People who are looking to work in Canada are suggested to take the IELTS General Training test. This exam is structured similar to the IELTS Academic test, having the same four sections. The Listening and Speaking tests are the same, and the Writing and Reading sections vary. The Reading, Writing and Listening sections for both the different types of IELTS are done on the same day. Candidates have no breaks in between. The Speaking section is taken by the examiner face-to-face.
The candidates are scored on a scale of 0-9. One is the score given to non-users of the language, while 9 is the band score awarded to experienced users. To apply for permanent residency in Canada, candidates are required to score a minimum of 6 on all four sections of the test.
The minimum score required also varies from profession to profession. Lawyers who are looking to work in Canada must score a minimum of 7 in every section of the IELTS exam. Nurses are required to score a 7 in the speaking section, and an overall band score of 6.5.
IELTS results
IELTS is one of the most important English language tests for non-native speakers. Two kinds of tests can be taken – the computer-based test and the IELTS test.
The computer-based test is done on a computer, where the candidates answer questions in the Reading, Writing, and Listening sections. The speaking section is done via a face-to-face interview. Results of the IELTS on Computer results within 2 days of taking the exam.
The IELTS on Paper exam is done by physically attending the exam centre. The candidates answer questions in the Reading, Writing, and Listening sections on the same day. The Speaking section is done via a face-to-face interview with an examiner. Results of the IELTS on Paper exam are released within 7 days of taking the test.
IELTS is not a difficult exam to ace. With proper and adequate practice, candidates can secure a good grade, and get one step closer to the dream of either working or studying in Canada.
